Remedy Guides โ€” Natural Remedies Ireland

Honest, plain-spoken reviews of traditional remedies used in Ireland โ€” what the evidence actually shows, and the safety points that matter.

Each guide is checked against the HSE, safefood, and published clinical trials. We state clearly when evidence is strong, mixed, or based on traditional use only. For premium supplements and herbal products, see our partner store Ireland Health Shop โ€” powered by The Honey Pot, Clonmel.

How We Review

Every remedy on this site is assessed using a consistent framework: What is the traditional use? What does the clinical evidence show โ€” and how good is that evidence? What are the safety considerations, particularly drug interactions and contraindications in pregnancy or for children? And what is the practical guidance for someone in Ireland who wants to use this remedy?

We don't inflate weak evidence to make a remedy sound more impressive than it is. We don't dismiss traditional use as meaningless when it hasn't been subjected to randomised controlled trials โ€” much of traditional herbal medicine hasn't been, for the simple reason that plants can't be patented, so pharmaceutical investment in trials has been limited. We try to give each remedy a fair, informed assessment.

The evidence ratings you'll see in each guide reflect a simple scale: Strong (multiple well-designed RCTs or systematic reviews), Moderate (some controlled evidence, mixed results, or limited sample sizes), Preliminary (animal studies or early human data only), and Traditional use (no clinical evidence, but documented historical use).
