Natural Remedies Ireland is an independent Irish reference site dedicated to honest, evidence-based information on natural and traditional remedies. We exist because the natural health space in Ireland โ and globally โ is full of hyperbole, unsubstantiated claims and commercial noise. We think Irish people deserve something better: straightforward, well-referenced information that tells them what works, what doesn't, what's safe and what needs a GP instead of a supplement.
Natural Remedies Ireland is a reference guide โ not a shop, not a practitioner service and not a substitute for professional medical advice. We review traditional and contemporary natural remedies against the published evidence and give you a clear, honest picture of what the science supports.
We write for Irish readers specifically โ noting which remedies are part of Irish tradition, which plants grow in Ireland, and what the HSE, safefood.net and relevant European health authorities say about each remedy.
Every guide on this site is produced according to the following standards:
Irish Health Service Executive guidance is checked for every remedy. Where the HSE has a position, we state it.
safefood.net (all-island food safety and nutrition body) is cross-referenced for nutrition and food-safety claims.
Where a Cochrane systematic review exists for a remedy, we cite it first โ the highest standard in clinical evidence.
Individual randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses cited by name, year and journal. No unnamed sources.
European Medicines Agency herbal monographs and EFSA scientific opinions are referenced for established traditional medicines and nutrients.
Every claim is rated Strong / Moderate / Limited / Mixed based on quality and consistency of available evidence.
"Natural does not mean safe. Effective does not mean safe. And traditional does not mean evidence-based. We try to disentangle all three."
We believe the most useful thing we can do is be honest about what the evidence shows โ including when it shows that a widely believed remedy doesn't work as claimed, or carries safety risks that are routinely under-reported. We think Irish people are well capable of making good decisions about their health when given clear, unbiased information.
Where evidence is strong, we say so clearly. Where it is weak, we say so. Where something is potentially dangerous, we put that at the top of the page โ not at the bottom after a paragraph of benefits. Safety is not a footnote on this site.
